The Bright Spot

Overview:

The Bright Spot Homeschool Coop provides social and enrichment experiences for children ages 10-14. The program focuses on community building, creativity, and themed interdisciplinary units incorporating art, dance, drama, music, science, social studies, math, and literacy. This program is intended as an enhancement to (not a replacement for) core curriculum. Themed units span the course of several weeks and are guided by student interest in topics and activities they want to explore, try out, or learn more about.

The coop will be facilitated and designed by Amy Mayer (AKA Ms. Amy). Ms. Amy has over 20 years of experience in education with certifications in elementary and Montessori education. She takes great joy in working with children and engaging them in experiences that help them find delight in getting to know each other, learn and explore, be creative, and try out something new.

Details:

The Bright Spot Homeschool Coop...

• welcomes family participation, but it is not required.
• is for children ages 10-14. Coop kids must be able to toilet independently and not be a safety risk to themselves or others (elopement, aggression, etc.).
• takes place on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am-1pm at The Bright Spot or at other locations around the area on our field trip days.
• includes field trip fees. We will take monthly field trips. All families are welcome to attend on field trip days or drop off at the field trip location.
• includes guest speakers and experiences related to the interdisciplinary theme.
• provides all needed supplies and materials. Coop kids just need to bring a lunch, morning snack, afternoon snack, and water bottle each day.
• is capped at 10 kids to provide the opportunity to build a close knit community.
• if we have to miss days for weather, illness, or any other circumstances that prevent us from meeting, a refund of $25 a day will be issued to families.
• does not provide refunds for missed days for illness, etc. for coop families due to budgeting for supplies/materials, meeting space, field trips, staff, guest instructors, etc.

Fees:

The Bright Spot Homeschool Coop requires a $150 deposit. This is non-refundable and secures your spot for the 2025-2026 session. If you participate in the session, it will roll over into the required supply and field trip fee of $150. If you do not participate in the session, it will roll into a donation for children to attend experiences at The Bright Spot.

Tuition for August 2025-May 2026 is $2,850. You can pay this in full ($2850 due August 1) or monthly ($285 due the 1st of each month August-May). At registration, you will specify the payment plan you have selected and will be invoiced accordingly. Payments may be made by check, credit card, or Venmo.

A sibling discount of $50 per sibling is available per sibling. Directions: After the first registration you will get a "Register another person" button. Clicking on that presents you with another registration form already pre-filled and available for you to modify as needed. You can repeat this flow as many times as needed. 

By registering online, paying the deposit, and selecting your payment plan, you are agreeing to the terms specified here in regards to policies and payments.

Schedule:

We will have an orientation/open house on August 15 from 10:30am-12:00pm where everyone can come meet each other, see the place, and get an overview of what we will be doing at coop. We will then meet Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am-1pm August 20-May 22 (except for fall break, Thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring break). Here is a link to the calendar for 2025-2026.

The daily schedule we will follow is:

9:00-9:30 Play Into the Day

9:30-10:00 Morning Meeting

10:00-10:15 Snack and Play

10:15-11:00 Activity 1

11:00-11:30 Lunch and Play

11:30-12:30 Activity 2

12:30-1:00 Snack and Play

Activity times are where we do interdisciplinary activities related to our interdisciplinary theme.
